This is a "Chelsea Pensioner" Toby Jug in excellent condition. The text on bottom of jug reads: "Chelsea Pensioner"The Royal Hospital Chelsea. Founded by Charles II. At the wish of Nell Gwynn. Designed by Wren, completed 1690 On King Charles' Birthday "Oak Apple Day, 29th May" pensioners wear a sprig of oak leaves to commemorate Charles' escape from Cromwell by hiding in an oak tree Burleigh, England
