Chelsea Ship's Bell BRASS CLOCK US Navy Nautical Maritime item Face marked in Arabic numerals, "CELESEA SHIP'S BELL" Movement marked "Chelsea Sea Clock Co., Boston USA." Serial Number 474301 Case: Brass/Bronze, Body is 6" in dia., 3-1/2" deep, flange ~8". Original Chelsea key is included.
This heavy cast brass clock weighs approximately 7 lbs. and the case has some wear, corrosion and age patina, giving it a nice original sea salt appearance. Will just fit into a Priority flat Rate box, but for double boxing or outside the US estimate 12 lbs shipping weight. Condition: Needs repair. Case is dirty and brass is tarnished in some spots. No dents or major scratches. Main key turns but does not wind up. Turned minute hand to test the chimes which seem to be working just fine. This should be an 8-day key wind movement with a ships bell strike; at 12:30 one strike, at 1:00 two strikes, at 1:30 three strikes, at 2:00 four strikes, at 2:30 five strikes, at 3:00 six strikes, at 3:30 seven strikes and at 4:00 eight strikes. From 4:30 to 8:00 and 8:30 to 12:00 the same sequence is repeated. Shipping & Handling: Will be a flat $9.95 for Priority Mail w/ Tracking anyw in the USA. Answering email I am shocked to discover the Bezel/door is black plastic with some type of gilt/bronze finish. Screw Knob is black plastic with Stainless Steel threads. The Window is glass and the Case Body is solid Brass/Bronze, as is the clockworks. Good question, I hope this is not bad news for anybody. Good luck and have a happy New Year.
