This impressive chest of drawers dates from about 1840. The top two drawers have a secret locking arrangement, which I have seen on only a few other chests. The drawers are scratch-beaded, and I do not believe the light-colored inlaid escutchions are original. Originally, this chest had wooden drawer pulls, which were later replaced by some sort of brass, 2-hole pull, which were later replaced by proper wooden knobs. An interesting saga.
Overall condition is very good, with a recent refinish that frees the natural color of the wood.
