This plaster-cast of a German style sign is flat with a hanging loop on the back. I've included two pictures so you can see that some of the plaster letters have been chipped. Nonetheless, this is a real piece of Chicago's most famous mobbed up brewery, including ownership by Al Capone, Frank Nitti and Lou Greenberg, who stopped by a local rib joint and had a couple of hot rounds of lead for dessert. From my book, Beer: A History of Brewing in Chicago ; "T he Greenberg's decided to eat at the Glass Dome Hickory Pit, a small Bridgeport rib joint on Union Avenue, just minutes from the brewery. Arriving about six P.M., the couple remained at the restaurant for about a half-hour and left out the front door towards their car which was parked just a few feet west of the entrance. As Greenberg opened the car door for his wife, two men quickly approached the couple and muttered something to Greenberg as they came up behind him. "No, no..." Greenberg almost meekly responded to the men as two shots rang out. Although wounded, the 65 year-old millionaire turned and began giving chase to the two startled men as they ran east across Union. One of the assailants stopped in the middle of the street and fired three more times at the pursuing Greenberg. As the fatally wounded man fell to the street, the gunmen fled down a nearby alley."
