Hard-to-find souvenir miniature metal building of the NAVY PIER in Chicago. This beauty is 7 1/4" long, 1 3/4" wide and stands 1 5/8" high. Embossed on one side is GIANT PENISULA OF STEEL AND GLASS; on the other side is EXTENDS 3000 FEET INTO THE LAKE. On the top inside the two side building on the pier is LARGEST EXPOSITION BUILDING IN THE WORLD and EXACT REPLICA OF $5,000,000 MUNICIPAL PIER. On the short side in the back of the building is SOUVENIR OF CHICAGO.

The pier and the building were built in 1916 and was known as Municipal Pier #2. (#1 was never built.) The pier was designed as a shipping and entertainment area. In its first decade, the Municipal Pier was successfully attracting both visitors and ships. It was used temporarily as a military facility during World War I.

The pier was renamed the Navy Pier in 1927 in honor of World War I veterans. The Pier was a naval training facility during the second World War. After the war it was used as the Chicago branch of the University of Illinois. The Pier fell into disrepair afthe the university moved to its new location in 1965.

T is some finish loss but this does not detract. Glued to the green felt on the bottom is a partial green sticker indicating that this piece was manufactured by the A. C. Rehberger Mfg. Co of Chicago. Wouldn't this seldom-seen piece be a nice addition to your collection?

Unless indicated as new, all of our listed items have been used over the years. Although every effort is made to describe condition accurately, sometimes small details can get missed. If you have any questions or need clarification, please email before the auction is over. The word "mint" is never used in any of our descriptions.
High bidder pays S&H; insurance, if desired, is extra. With the increasing problem of parcels getting misplaced in transit, insuring your item is strongly recommended. We cannot refund for uninsured lost items within the postal or any other shipping system. We can accept money order, cashiers or personal check or PayPal. Money order assures next day shipping; checks take 7-10 days to clear. Payment within 7 days post-auction is greatly appreciated! International bidders are welcome; please be aware that shipping and insurance fees will be higher. Thanks. Brigid and Jim

T are no cracks, dents, corrosion or missing metal on the building. The aforementioned missing finish is the only shortcoming.

T is a tight hairline on the "L" of the embossed word LAKE that stops at the base of the building on one of the long sides. I found it only under magnification. It's difficult to spot with the naked eye. I missed it on first inspection.

REHBERGER MFG. CO.CHICAGO is impressed on the base just above the start of the embossed word GIANT on the other long side. Found that under magnification, too.
