This is a beautiful brass model of the Chicago & NorthWestern Class R1 "Ten Wheeler". Between 1901 and 1908 the C&NW received 325 of these locomotives from both Schenectady and the Baldwin Locomotive Works. They were used in both passenger and freight service. Many of them lasted to the end of steam. As delivered, these engines had 63-inch drivers, spoked pilot wheels, 21-inch cylinders and super heaters. The model has slant cylinders. The tenders held 7500 gallons of water and 10 tons of coal. In later years, the railroad apparently changed some of the spoked pilot wheels to solid wheels. This model has solid pilot wheels. It is unpainted. T appears to be no wheel wear and I believe it has only been briefly test run. I am at the point w I need to cut down on my model collection. Enjoy!
