This is a Chicago Police Department ' Gamewell Call Box '. Box is in real nice condition with the exception of minor wear and age scratches and dings on the phone itself and a minor use paint scrape on the inside top edge of the door which cant be seen unless looking for it and does not affect the overall appearance of the box.. Appearing on street corners affixed to poles prior to the 1900's gangster era, they remained until the city began to remove them in the 1970's. They were used for beat officers to contact their stations for assignments and to summon assistance prior to being outdated by police radios. Measuring 17 inches high by 11 inches wide by 6 inches deep and weighing 38 lbs; the box is a nice piece of history and conversation piece and comes with the original CPD issued callbox key. The telephone has not been tested and only assume that it is operable. Payment must be received from winning bidder with 7 days of auction close IN FORM OF MONEY ORDER OR CASHIER'S CHECK ONLY !!! Purchaser also pays ACTUAL shipping charges to his location and any requested insurance fees. (NOTE: UPS does not deliver to P.O Boxes)
