This auction is for an early 1900's - I believe the exact date to be 1910 or so - celluloid baseball pocket score keeper. These are a pretty rare find. This one works- the wheels turn and you can keep track of both the home and the visiting teams runs, hits, errors, innings and score. All of the counter wheels spin. I can hear some grit in between and you can see from the pictures that there is some dirt on the item. The riveted holes are all secure- all of the metal 'O' rings are intact.
I have always been told not to attempt to clean up antiques, so i have not cleaned this one. The advertising on the back is for the Tomas B. Jeffery Co. Thomas B Jeffery was the inventor of the Rambler Bicycle first, and then a co inventor of the Rambler Automobile, from what i can tell by Googling the name. There is a comic of a ball player named "Little Alexander" saying "Mine host to 35, 000 Fans" At the bottom is a picture of a bear-?cub- and "A hearty welcome to every national bug" ....by the way, Rambler stands for "Ready Any Moment Besides Long Easy Ride"........ The item measures 2x5" by American Art Works. Two sheets of celluloid are held together by brass grommets and there are notched wheels with three along the top edge, one at left, one at right, and three extending from the tires and spare tire on the bottom edge. These are designated and count both the "Home Team" and "Visiting Team" runs, hits, errors, as well as the games innings and outs. Reverse of the piece has advertising from dealer "Thomas B Jeffery Co. Of Illinois/1008 Michigan Ave., Chicago." In addition to the "Rambler" advertising at top is small image of baseball player with name below his belt and text to the side "Little Alexander/Mine Host To 35,000 Fans." At the bottom is image of bear holding baseball bat in its paws with text along side "A Hardy Welcome To Every National Bug." Very trivial traces of wear. A similar item sold for realized price of $600.00. The item is in the condition that i have pictured and i am positive that this is an actual item an not a fake. The card does have some dirt and some grit in between, but is in good fair condition. No refunds will be accepted on this item. I ship all item insured with signature confirmation. Thanks lots and have a great day!!
