The issue starts out withtwo frontispieces by Vierge which are illustrations for De maupassant's story, Apres. Mark Twain goes to Chicago, but it is not quite clear whether he sees the fair or not. This is the first appearence of his satire, Travelling With a Reformer Dan Beard drew the nifty illustrations for the Twain story.
