THE COSMOPOLITAN December 1893 Volume XVI, No. 2 Edited by JOHN BRISBEN WALKER IRVINGTON-ON-THE-HUDSON NEW YORK With numerous half-tone and line illustrations; pages 133 - 256 plus 104 pages of advertising; approx.6 1/2" x 19 1/2" decorated wraps; stapled and pasted (pictorial paper covers) Daniel Vierge, a Spanish artist / illustrator of immense talent is often referred to as "The Father of Illustration". The issue starts out withtwo frontispieces by Vierge which are illustrations for De maupassant's story, Apres. Mark Twain goes to Chicago, but it is not quite clear whether he sees the fair or not. This is the first appearence of his satire, Travelling With a Reformer Dan Beard drew the nifty illustrations for the Twain story.
