Original Kawasaki Kyosen Japanese Woodblock Series; Kyosen's "Children's Toys" Kyosen Omocha Shu Original, First Edition from Kyosen's "Children's Toys"- Printed in 1919, this classic Kyosen series depicts old children's toys in vivid color and incredible detail. These early 20th century toy designs are striking oban compositions in this rare vertical format. From kabuki masks and animal toys to depictions of geisha and dragons, the toys depicted in this series often reference ancient folklore and the famous heroes of Japanese tales. Kawasaki Kyosen, son of Yoshitaki (1841 - 1899), was well-known for his depictions of toys and had a number of series entirely devoted to their illustration. These still life portraits of toys are snap shots from early 20th century Japanese life. Their clean simplicity evokes a tranquil, almost Zen feel. This is a wonderful, original series that provides a charming look back at early 20th century toys in Japan .
