RareChild's Blue EarthenwareTeaset NURSERY RHYMES Shell WareShell Pottery, Alexandra Porcelain Works (later Shell Teasets Ltd.)Longport, Staffordshire, Englandc. 1920 This is an delightful 15-piece miniature teaset, c. 1920, made for children's teatime play or for a dollhouse. Rarely do we see these sets with so many pieces altogether. The color is a bright and cheery sky blue with gilt along the rims. The tiny set is comprised of: TEAPOT WITH LID 3 1/4" tall OPEN SUGAR 1 3/4" tall CREAM PITCHER 2 1/2" tall FOUR CUPS 3" tall, and FOUR SAUCERS 3 3/4" in diameter FOUR PLATES 4 1/2" in diameter The set is abundantly decorated with a playful assortment of children's nursery rhymes and tales -- Goosey Goosey Gander, Little Miss Muffet, Jack and Jill, T Was a Little Man, Mary Mary Quite Contrary, and Sing A Song of Sixpence -- all beautifully illustrated with amusing images and accompanying rhymes. T are also randomly placed bunny rabbits and geese on the reverse and bottoms of the pieces. The set was marked "SHELLWARE England Nursery Rhymes". The set was made by Alexandra Porcelain Works (later Shell Teasets Ltd.) in the Staffordshire district, c. 1920. The Nursery Rhymes set was one of their most popular teasets, very hard to find today.
