This auction is for ONE mint, never-issued two-piece M1 helmet replacement chinstrap. It comes out of an original sealed box from the original manufacturer. It is genuine US government issue, NOT a reproduction or copy. This strap was produced between 1965 and 1972 by North and Judd Mfg. Co. in New Britain, Connecticut, whose logo was an anchor. It is OD#7 (olive green) cotton webbing and comes with a dull black-oxide metal finish with crimp-on tabs for easy attachment to the bales (using pliers). It has the T1 "ball and hook" release and is correct for the post-Korea through post-Vietnam period. Strap is 16 inches long when the two sides are connected. These types of straps were used by US Forces from November 1944 until about 1982. They started to be replaced around 1978 by a nylon/cotton split-chin hook-in strap that didn't require pliers for installation and looked somewhat similar to airborne straps. Do not confuse these with the thinner metal "NATO" chinstraps sold elsewhere on eBay. They don't call them NATO straps and they look similar and will work OK but if the metal parts are painted shiny black, they're not US made. L ook for a white cotton core; an OD7 core means a NATO strap and they often cost more than the real thing. Why pay more for a copy? Let me know if you'd like a strap with an anchor.
