Chinese wood statue. This is a very detailed carving and will make a good addition to any museum, collection or as an investment. It is approximately 29" long X 13" tall x 11" wide - more than twice the size of similar Chinese antiques in this price range and of exceptional quality in craftsmanship. The statue weighs approximately 50 pounds. T is only minor age cracking in wood, as to be expected of any wood carving of this age. The wood appears to be ebony (due to color, hardness and weight) and is carved from one single piece. I estimate this to be between 100 and 200 years old (based on similar wood carving techniques and style of this period). Will answer all questions promptly and honestly. This is a quality antique!

I just added 2 more photos. One is from top view but close-up and one is from underneath. As you will see, the underneath photo shows that the bottom is rough hand hewn (looks like mattock markings). The original wood is lighter than the finish product implies. As it is of hard surface my guess is that the artist may have kiln fired it after carving. Although t is no overburn or charcoal, this would have been a good method for preserving the wood in older times - just my guess. The entire bottom/underneath is rough and appears to have the tool marks of a mattock. Hope this answers your questions.
