F-115 "Selected Woodcuts by Ku Yuan", very rare early Chinese monograph on propaganda art, published in Peking in 1952 in a stated edition of 2,000 examples only. Consisting of a brief preface then (43) single-sided plates bound between canvas-covered boards. (8) of the images are original color linotypes, the remaining (35) seem to be black-and-white photomechanical reproductions of woodcuts. This is considerably rare as this artist was one of the masters of this sort of visual art in China in the mid 1950s - in fact his woodcut "Mao in Yemen" which appears and is seen in one of the photographs below, is an absolutely iconic Chinese propaganda image of this period. Excellent condition in the original cloth-covered binding, Preface and all captions are in Chinese, but a translation booklet (Russian, English, French), is laid in at rear. Very Rare! (26 x 37cm, approx).
