Chinese Copper Cloisonne Enamel 19th C Cicada on Bamboo Fine Chinese 18/19th C. Copper Cloisonne Enamel Cicada on Bamboo Statue. On the surface you can see many auspicous motifs. They are lotus flower and calabash. Actually the two auspicious motifs are two weapons used by He Xiangu and Tieguai Li, who are two of the Eight Immortals in Chinese legend. The yellow color on the head, claws and the brims of the feathers is real gold gilded. The same with the brims of the bamboo. Cicada has the meaning of fortune and status in Chinese literature. It means "A meteoric rise to fame" for this statue. Cloisonne is a famous traditional enamel ware, known as the "Blue of Jingtai" in China, with a history of over 500 years. it was so called "blue" was the typical colour used for enamelling and "Jingtai" was the reign title of the 7th Ming Emperor. Enamel ware became very popular during the Emperor's reign. T is a great variety of products, such as vase, jar, bowl, plate, box and ash-tray. They are brilliant in colours and splendid in design. Length of statue: 9.9cm (3.89 in), Width of statue: 4.2cm ( 1.65 in), Thickness of statue: 4.7cm (1.85 in) Weight : 587g Condition is very good, Nicely hand polished.
