A wonderful pair of Chinese exportporcelain plates, decorated in blue and white, Qianlong period, 18th century Description: On offer is this exquisite pair of Chinese porcelain plates, hand painted under glaze in deep blue on milky white. The plates are elaborately decorated and show a central design of blossoming flowers in a garden. The borders of the plates have an ornate decoration of six flower patterns within a concentric circle. Both plates are unmarked. Both plates are in near perfect condition, without damages, hairline cracks or repairs. One or two glaze imperfections to the backside of the rim, flea bite size, need to be mentioned for accuracy. Both plates produce a clear singing sound, when knocked by fingernails. Please view the pictures, which give a good impression of the exquisite quality and the outstanding condition of the objects, which certainly can be called a matching set, although small pattern differences exist. These thin porcelain plates were made in China in the18th century. Both pattern and color which were used for the decoration, indicate that they were produced during the Qianlong (Kien Lung, Chien Lung) period, which covers a large part of the 18th century (1736 -1795). From the 16th century onwards many Chinese products were exported to Europe. Oriental porcelain was imported to The Netherlands by the Dutch East Indies Company (V.O.C.), which had commercial privileges to China and Japan. The wealthy Dutch upper class adored the subtle China ware and large quantities were shipped to Holland in the 17th and 18th centuries. Both plates measure slightly over 9 inches (23 cm) across. Please note that the display stands are not included in this auction. I guarantee age (18th century) and authenticity of these highly decorative collector's items, originating from a Dutch private collection. (Note: a plate similar to this pair came in at the same time, from the same provenance. Unfortunately, this third plate is severely damaged and glued. It is not shown in the pictures, but will be added to the auctioned pair for free, without extra shipping costs involved. This is optional for the winner of this auction) Shipping and payment: Costs of shipping will be on account of buyer and will be kept as low as possible.
