An attractive group of various Chinese export blue and white decorated porcelain collectibles, 18th century description: On offer is this interesting group of various antique porcelain objects, hand decorated in blue under glaze on white, originating from China. These delicate items were made for the export market to Europe and are dating to the 18th century. They were made during the reign of the emperors KangXi and QianLong. Chinese porcelain was traded by the Dutch East Indies Company (VOC), which had special commercial privileges to Japan (Decima Island) and China. The wealthy Dutch merchants loved the subtle Chinese porcelain and large quantities were shipped to Holland in the 17th and 18th centuries. It is known that the Chinese factories reserved their best quality porcelain for export, thus pleasing their European customers. Although manufactured to be used, most of this Oriental porcelain was kept in collections and displayed in special China cabinets in European distinguished houses. This group of Chinese blue and white collectibles consists of four cups and six saucers, some matching. The condition of these objects is described accurately below:1. A near matching set of four octagonal shaped saucers is decorated with a central single flower pattern, surrounded by eight pointed reserves, all containing a flower and it's foliage, within a continuous garland rim. The backs of these little plates show eight reserves with single flowers, and markings: a stylized character mark (3) or a double ring (1). One saucer can be called perfect, two saucers are in good condition, with only some (hardly visible) fleabite rim frittings, with some associated glaze imperfections, which need to be mentioned for accuracy. The fourth saucer has a distinct rim damage with an associated hairline, as visible on the pictures. These little plates are approximately measuring 4 inches (10 mm) across.2. A subtle set of four matching tea bowls has a continuous outside decoration of stylized flowers within shaped reserves. The inside of these cups shows a floral decoration within concentric circles. All are marked on the base with a Chinese four character mark within rings. These bowls are in good condition; All have some minute rim fritting, as nearly always found on Chinese export porcelain; one has a rim chip with an associated very thin hairline. All bowls measure 3 1/8 inches (79 mm) wide, while standing 2,25 inches (56 mm) high. 3. A single saucer of a rare design. It is decorated with a pattern, traditionally called by the Dutch: ' Koekoek in het huisje ' (Cuckoo in the house). In fact this is a decoration of a phoenix in the sky above a house or a temple. This decoration was quite popular in The Netherlands during the second half of the 18th century and is generally dated to the 1770-1790 period. The pattern was actually mentioned in a 1789 VOC cargo list. A typical plate is depicted in the book "Porcelain and the Dutch China trade" by C.J.A. Jörg (plate 82). The back of the little plate is not decorated and unmarked. Measuring 106 mm in diameter, it has two distinct rim chips, one with an associated very thin and short hairline.4. A single saucer with scalloped rim and floral patterns, having a rim chip with an associated hairline, measuring 115 mm across. These interesting objects originate from a Dutch private estate. Please view the pictures, which give a good impression of the condition and the quality of these lovely objects. I guarantee age (18th century) and authenticity of these beautiful collectors items.
