Beautiful Chinese Export Ivory Carving of a Puzzel Ball on a Figural Pedestal. This is a very large and elaborate puzzel ball with a total of eleven balls including a solid ball in the center. The exterior ball is carved in high relief with four dragons, their long scaley bodies twisting and turning around the many openings amid the clouds, flowers and vines. Each interior hole is edged with key-fret design and all are pierced with very fine fretwork. The object of the puzzle is to arrange the holes in a manner to reveal the eleven different layers of carving. The ball is supported on a tall pedestal of figural design. Possibly the figure is Lan Caihe, one of the Eight Immortals, depicted with a flower basket and wearing long flowing robes with ribbons. The face, hands and hair are finely detailed. The pedeatal base is carved with more dragons weaving in and out of the clouds.

Height overall: 15 1/4 in. (40.5 cm), Diameter of ball: 3 3/4 in. (9.5 cm)

Condition: Slight natural age cracks to pierced drum and base of pedestal. Losses to fretwork on interior balls. Please see last 4 close-up pictures. This is a very beautiful ivory carving.
