Click small picture to Enlarge Details This is an ivory statue of an ancient Chinese man. Perhaps a priest or a scholar. The detail of the carving is quiet amazing. You can almost see the old gentleman's eyes twinkling, his mouth is in a huge smile. And if you look real close, you can see his perfect teeth. He has a long, flowing beard, carries what looks like a wooden staff with a gourd attached with rope at the end. A section of the rope has been lost. In his hand is an egg-shaped item, perhaps bread or some other type of food. His long belt contains 4 chinese markings.
This beautiful piece is in excellent condition with some small cracks and light patina that comes with age. He stands approximately 9 1/4" tall, including stand, and is approximately 3 1/2" wide, also including stand. This piece was given to me many years ago and I was told that it was an ivory statue of a chinese priest. I'm in the process of downsizing so I've decided that it's time for some of my treasures to have a new home.
