This is an impressive chinese elephant ivory carving. The tusk alone measures over 15 inches tall and measure over 16 inches along the curve of the tusk. It measures 3 and 3/8 wide by 2 and 3/4 at the base. This ivory weighs over 3 LBS. It is not signed but has many similar characteristics to my Ch'ien lung period pieces. The masterful skills of the artist has managed to utilize the natural curve and grain of the tusk. The patina has an aged beauty. The figure is standing on a lotus blossom with waves gently splashing at her feet. In her right hand she holds a woven basket which contains a fish. The designing of the face, hands and feet are exquisite. The overall condition is good to excellent for its age. T is a break in the wrist that has been restored and t are some fine age lines on the face. I can't tell for sure but t may be a chip midway down on the back w the clothes drape, please see the photo. I really had to think for a long time about selling this piece, it has such a magnificent quality about it. The reserve is much lower than the true value. The stand in the photos is not included. The winning bidder will contact me within 3 days and payment made within 5 days. Good luck.
