This is an interesting early 18th century Chinese piece. Originally lbue and white with gilding it was later overpainted (clobbered)in Holland, and given a lid. On the sides of the pot are two marks where you can see that this was a large mug or tankard. It probably arrived with a broken handle in Holland and so was overpainted in Delft to hide this and given a lid. The Dutch were very clever with this sort of embellishment in the 18th century, adding silver and gilt mounts and disguising any damage to maximise their profit from thelucrative China Trade. You can see the underglazed blue decoration underneath. It's a lovely thing. Very Good condition, finial on lid has been reglued and there are 2 minute rim frits. Measures 7.5 inches tall (19.5cm). During the first half of the 18th century the demand for polychrome wares in Europe was quite high. At the same time, the Dutch East India Company (VOC) was actually having problems getting sufficient finely decorated wares, preferable tea wares and other uncommon shapes. The lack of sufficient imports of polychrome Chinese export porcelain caused a certain amount of scarcity in Europe, which raised the prices.
