This Chinese Rose Medallion covered or lidded jar measures 4 5/8" in height, and 3 7/8" in diameter. It is decorated in rich, chinese export colors traditional to this ware. There are both floral and domestic scene reserves surrounded by roses, bocage, butterflies, and all highlighted with gold. There are small chips to the inside of the lid (see detail), only one of which is visible from the outside. It dates from the 1860-1870 period.
