CHINESE SAGE SHOU Immortal Buddha Porcelain Statute Figurine 13 ". Shou is the name of the Taoist immortal oflongevity. He is often personified by sage-like figure and is often worshiped along with Buddha as part of the pantheon of household gods. It is painted in what I believe to be the famille rose polychrome style. The figurine is painted mostly in a light sky blue, soft mint green and a lemony yellow color glazes. Floral motifs complete the decorations. . I am guessing that this a pre-1949 piece possibly going back to the early Republican period or even the late Qing period. The porcelain figurine offered here is quite large heavy (about 4 pounds) for a statute this size. It is a nice solid piece that is about 13 inches high and 7 inches wide. The facial features are nicely detailed. They are very good condition. However, there are three minor broken areas with missing pieces. The top portion of the staff is broken and missing. Also the antlers and the tail of the deer are broken and missing. Part of the beard has a different color so possible a repair. Aside for these parts, every thing else is intact. This nice antique piece is very decorative and would easily lend its beauty into any home. It is a great conversation piece. TERMS AND CONDITIONS: Payment is due 5 days from the end of the auction.
