Up for auction is a "VERY VERY RARE" Choate Machine & Tool, Stainless Dendritic Steel BOOT KNIFE PROTOTYPE instunning condition. It features a full tang design, made of 440 Dendritic Steel (stainless steel dust compressed into finished blade) and a black rubber covered handle, w/thong hole, and CHOATE TOOL CORP, and MADE IN UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, molded into the handle. These knives were designed and tested in the 1980's, as the ultimate knife for the U.S. Military, and Government agencies, but were found at the time, to be too expensive and time consuming to be produced, and were discontinued before any production began. If you know about steel, you will find that dendritic steel is superior to alot of the common steels produced today, and still very expensive to produce, so makers that use this steel, get a premium for thier knives. The knife is 7 7/8" overall, and has a 3 15/16" double edge, factory unsharpened blade. The handle is shaped very much like the A.G. Russell Sting knife, and has thumb recesses, and tapered body. If you collect Military weapons, your collection is not complete without this very Rare knife. .
