This exquisite antique coffee pot has been in my husband's family for at least three generations. It is all hand painted and portrays the Duchesse de Bourgogne, who was probably the Lady Di of her time. Other very similar portraits on the web make me beleive she lived from 1685-1712. If this pot was done during her lifetime, it is quite old. The pot is 8.5" H x 8.5" W with the scalloped base measuring 5.5" in diameter. With the lid on it measures 10" high. The decorations include delicately brushed pink and violet chrysanthemums, tiny five petalled yellow, blue, pink flowers nestled into the border of the cobalt blue glaze, which adorns the handle, lip, and base. The blue glaze is brushed over with a delicate crosshatched pattern and flourishes. The backgrounds are palest yellow and pink, and the frame for the portrait is blue-green and gold. Flaws: This piece was lovingly used for a long time, The gold glaze has worn off in places w the handles were held and w one's thumb hits the pot whilst holding the larger handle. Also, the portrait of the Duchesse has virtually all of the words "Duchesse de" gone, but the Bourgogne is clearly readable. T are some hairline cracks in the base and around the mouth of the pot. None can be seen by looking at the outside of the pot, except a small one at the base, and I could only see this by using read more
