CHOICEBRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED 1929-S BUFFALO NICKEL PCGS CERTIFIED MS-64 RPM NO RESERVE Welcome fellow eBayer! This auction features a PCGS Certified 1929-S Buffalo Nickel in MS-64 condition. The Indian Head or Buffalo Nickel designed by James Earle Fraser was first issued in 1913 with the Buffalo on a mound. Fraser’s original design was changed later in the year because the denomination and mint marks started wearing off quickly (too bad the US Mint didn’t do the same with the date). It was replaced with a modified reverse to protect the Five Cents. The Buffalo Nickel was the first coin to display accurate portrayals of a Native American and a Bison. Fraser used 3 models for the Indian Head and one for the bison. Generally speaking, branch mints never made Buffalo Nickels in great quantities. Mintage figures above 10 million from the Denver and San Francisco mints were high for this series. The 1929-S Buffalo Nickel has a mintage of 7.8 million pieces with relatively few surviving in uncirculated grades. The example you see here was acquired for my collection in 2009. This is a nice specimen as there’s brilliant mint luster on both sides and the strike is above average for a later date branch mint piece, which is why PCGS gave it an MS-64 grade.
