This is a stunning antique Japanese woodblock print of a bijin image by Miyagawa Choshun (Chozaemon, Shunkyokudo) (1682-1753). The woodcut is on very old paper with pencil notations verso that indicate current age at around 250 years. I would estimate age at between 100 and 150 years. or older. This is an incredible print with breath-taking detail and multiple colors, including gold (see pics of garment). The fine lines, precise register, subtle shading and intricacy is among the best of any woodblock impression that I've ever seen. The piece is signed and sealed, "Miyagawa Choshun" lower-right.
Condition is excellent. Full margins. Paper shows minor all-over toning and some foxing to margins but image is perfect with good bleed-through to verso. Sheet was spot-affixed at top to black backing paper around 50 years ago. Unframed. Shipped flat. Sheet size = 10-1/4" X 15-1/8" Sight size = 6-1/4" X 11-3/4" (Black backing paper = 13-7/8" X 19") This is one of three woodblock prints that I'm listing from the same collection, so check out my other items !
