It concerns the doings of a group of seven people all either employed by or attending a private high school in Omaha, Neb., which bears a striking, affectionate and hopefully non-litigious resemblance to the 1970s version of my own high school, Brownell-Talbot, though all of the main characters and situations are completely invented." Ware delivers his multi-layered stories, evoking an unsettled view of modern life, with intricate drawings and precise, spare text and dialogue. After attending the University of Texas in the mid-1980s, he studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the early 1990. His published works include Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth (2000) and Quimby the Mouse (2002). Ware's works have been selected for numerous exhibitions including the Whitney Biennial, and were also part of the Sheldon's Comics, Heroes and American Visual Culture in 2002.Chris Ware's art is eclectic in its influences, and largely reflects his love of early-20th century American aesthetics in both cartooning and graphic design, transitioning through dozens of artistic styles from traditional comic panels to advertisements to cut-out toys. Although his precise, geometrical layouts may appear to some to be computer-generated, in fact Ware works almost exclusively with "old-fashioned" drawing tools such as paper and pencil, rulers and T-squares. He does, however, sometimes use photocopies and transparencies, and employs a computer to color strips. Born in Omaha Nebraska , 1967, he resides in Oak Park, Illinois, as of 2006.The 32-page bound booklet contains an essay by Ware about his life, art and Omaha connections and examples of his work that has Nebraska roots. Those include a drawing he did for his mother, pages taken from the cartoon journal he writes in every day, Rusty Brown blue-line drawings and finished strips.
