Very rare book by Christina G. Rossetti - Annus Domini : A Prayer for Each Day of the Year. This is the first edition published for Roberts Brothers in Boston, 1875.The only copy for sale online right now is a signed copy for $9,500. so this is a very uncommon find.The book is 4 7/8" tall and is bound in the original publisher's cloth with gilt lettering. Covers lightly rubbed; a little discoloring to the rear cover; otherwise a very good copy.Christina Rossetti was the daughter of writer Gabriele Rossetti and sister of Dante Gabriel Rossetti, who was an English poet and painter. He founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood with William Holman Hunt and John Everett Millais; he also illustrated some of his sister Christina's writing.About this title the Poetry Foundation says "Following her recovery from Graves' disease Rossetti published the first of her six volumes of devotional prose, Annus Domini: A Prayer for Each Day of the Year, Founded on a Text of Holy Scripture (1874). In these devotional writings readers can find explicit statements of themes treated in the poetry of previous decades, and in many instances Rossetti discusses natural and biblical images, virtually glossing favorite poetic symbols.
