This auction is for a FABULOUS and BEAUTIFUL 1920-30's RISING SUN QUILT...The quilt is STUNNING as the 12 curved pieces of the sun (which are very hard to hand quilt with perfection) give such movement to the quilt..(Some might refer to this pattern as the Mariner's Compass...which is very close...and possibly what the quilter had in mind with the use of all the nautical fabrics??)...This quilt is fresh from a Nashville, Tennessee estate..The quilt measures 65" x 85" and has been hand quilted and hand pieced..The 1/4" turkey red color binder has been hemmed on the front and hand whipped on the back..T are 48 tiny pieces of light and dark contrasting colors for the sun's outside rays (or triangles)..The fabrics are wonderful with several feed sacks, shirting prints, and solids..T are 20 sunrises and 11 of these have fabric with anchors for the triangles in colors of red, green, and blue..The backing is ivory muslin and the quilting shows beautifully on the back..T are 3/4" grids and double line outline quilting..This quilt is clean and strong and has never been used or washed..The quilt is in excellent condition with the front being near mint (could find no flaws) and only the backing containing yellowish brown age stains or fold lines..No one has ever tried to lift these and I will not either..Will leave that up to the new owner. read more
