This Bakelite bangle is in a rare color- it looks almost black, but it is actually a deep shade of rich navy blue! When this bangle was made, it would have been a brighter cobalt blue- time has given the Bakelite a deep patina, turning the blue to dark navy. The shape is what many collectors call a "flying saucer" bangle, because of the way that the bangle tapers to an edge down the center. This is a nice chunky bangle- the walls are 7/16" thick (nearly a half inch!) and the bangle width is 15/16". The inner diameter is 2-1/2". The entire bangle is in wonderful, shiny condition- with no chips, cracks, fractures, or burn marks. The inner edges are perfectly smooth and it is a very comfortable bangle to wear. Tested positive as Bakelite (phenol formaldehyde or phenolic resin) using Simichrome and warm water.
