CHURCH ORGAN PIPES: GEDACKT RANK, 8ft Rank of 58 GEDACKT pipes. The Gedackt is a stopped flute found on the Swell Organ. This one has a lovely tone, quite full. Its cut-up is quite high, and this is compensated by quite generous toe-holes in the pipes. The bottom octave is made of stopped pine. The rest of the rank is of thickish standard pipe-metal (tick side out) (probably 90% lead, 10% tin) with cork stoppers This rank of pipes comes from an organ in a Methodist Church , originally built by NORMAN AND BEARD of Norwich around 1900. Key compass is 58 notes. I forgot to take my pressure gauge with me, but guess the pressure at about 3.5ins wg. The ranks of pipes are all in very good condition. They have been carefully removed from the organ and cleaned. Tonally they are on the Romantic side (typical for N+B in the period) with reasonably generous scales. The pipes are at Market Drayton, in the North Midlands , 15 miles west of Junction 15 on the M6, so very accessible These pipes/part s m ust be picked up by the buyer or his carrier. Please don’t ask me to send them by courier. Pipes do not travel well when sent, and in any case there is simply not the time to pack them all safely. Payment is by cash-on-collection, or Paypal if you prefer. DAVID COOPER, Area Methodist Organ adviser. For enquiries, phone me on
