Phoenix Program, Provincial Reconnaissance Unit Vietnam War Original Patch - Patch of the Indigenous Provincial Reconnaissance Unit Specifically and Solely assigned to Operations with the United States Special Forces and CIA for Operation within the Phoenix Progam ( Operation Phoenix ). Excellent Condition, cheesecloth backed, unused. This is a rare patch, - Operation Phoenix - ( The Phoenix Program ) Operation Phoenix became official in 1968 however existed for years before that - Operation Phoenix was instigated by the CIA with an aim to, ' destabalize, neutralize, capture and kill ' members of an organisation the CIA called the VCI (Viet Cong Infrastructure ) - The prgram was designed to disrupt any civilian activity that supported the VC south of the DMZ - this include people that supplied guides, foods, storage dumps, people who helped with conscription to the VC. The Central Intelligence Agency turned the Operation over to the US Amry and the ARVN in 1968 and continued to operate until 1972 - Not many of these patches were made - this patch was assigned to US and RVN soliders working on Operation Phoenix.
