CinnabarMariposa Mine, Terlingua, Brewster Co., Texas 10 x 7.2 A rich small cabinet sized specimen of Cinnabar from the Mariposa Mine, Terlingua, Texas. This specimen consists of a thin crust of blood red Cinnabar which covers the display surface of the specimen. While no distinct crystals are present, this is a fine representative sample of Cinnabar from this classic mercury mining district. Cinnabar is a sulfide of mercury and one of the primary ores of the metal. Terlingua, located just outside of Big Bend National Park, is one of the world's most fascinating mercury deposits. Nine new mercury bearing minerals were discovered at Terlingua and several have yet to be found elsew The mines have been closed for many decades and specimens are true Texas classics. I am listing many rare species and unusual locality specimens this week, all starting at just one dollar. I'm happy to combine shipping for multiple orders!
