Circa 1880 FIGURAL BLACK FOREST CARVED WOOD JEWELRY BOX VERY NICE CARVING with FIGURAL BIRD and NEST Circa 1880 Black Forest carved jewelry box. This box features fully figured detailed bird on top of the lid and the rest of the box shows nice typical Black Forest type carvings of flowers. The box measures approx 9" tall to the top of the bird or 5 ½ inches tall not counting the bird, the base is 8 inches long by 4 ½ inches wide, inside bottom compartment is 6 inches by 3 inches. The lid opens to reveal two compartments, which butterfly out to reveal the larger bottom compartment. The top 2 compartments are 3 inches square each inside. T is a small lock, but I do not have the key. The carved box is in very good condition for the age. The feet show some wear and the right top corner has a small mark – see photo, but I don’t see any other noticeable flaws. The inside cloth looks like the original and is tuft, possibly silk. The cloth in the bottom compartment is in very good shape. The top compartment cloth shows more wear that the bottom, but it is still in good shape. I have the original receipt from Morristown Antique Center that used to be at 45 Market St. , Morristown . I will send a copy of it to the successful bidder. Their original price was $325 in 1998. Don't miss out - whoever wins this piece will not be disappointed! It would make a wonderful addition to a Black Forest collection or a very nice jewelry box to display! Insurance is optional, but recommended as t are no refunds for items lost or damaged in transit. Please note that unless otherwise noted in the description, any and all white marks on the photos are from the flash and not a problem with the piece.
