Offered for auction is a rare and large blue summer silk gauze Qing dynasty robe purchased in Japan 20-25 years ago. It has been stored in a camphor chest since that time and occasionally aired - unmounted and never displayed. The silk gauze fabric is sheer and solid with no interwoven pattern. Motifs are embroidered/couch stitched in metallic gold thread and reinforced/secured with fine red silk threads on the interior (shown in photo #5.) The neckline, placket, and cuffs are trimmed in the original silk brocade fabric. Button fasteners are of the same brocade. 5 brass-toned buttons are securely attached. There are a total of 16 dragons: 3 large in front, 3 large in back, 1 smaller on each shoulder, 4 on the attached collar, 1 on each cuff, 1 on the placket and 1 on the concealed inner right panel. Other auspicious and symbolic motifs include fu-dogs/Chinese lions, bats, peonies, flaming pearls and clouds. CONDITION: From a distance of 7-8 feet, this robe appears to be in excellent condition.
