Outstanding Citrine Orange & Red Colors on Quartz!! Very Large Crystals!! Very Sharp Points!! Great Colors!! This geode is approx. 6.5 x 6 x 5.25 inches 7 lb 1.8 ozs The Black Band around the geode is Weathering Pyrites. LARGE IOWA GEODE!! FOUND IN IOWA!! ONE OF A KIND!! The other half seems to have a pale green tint to the quartz. Also a sliver of the shell broke around the opening & I glued it back in place but does not effect the apperance. These color stains will NOT wash out with water. I just rinsed water over the geode to clean it. A GREAT SET!! ALL NATURAL!! Quartz - silicon dioxide, SiO 2 Crystals may have double terminated points, twined, & the rarest diamond shaped crystals, hexagonal dipyramid (a quartzoid). Quartz is usually colorless to white, transparent to translucent. But frequently colored by impurities & then can be any color. It also has electrical properties ( piezoelectric and pyroelectric ). Hematite - iron oxide, Fe 2O 3Habits are thick to thin tabular often showing triangular markings and edges of plates maybe beveled with rhombohedral form. Rhombohedral form can have nearly cubic angles and twinned. Thin plates may be grouped in rosettes (iron rose). Commonly hematite is found earthy like a powder. Metallic luster in crystals and dull in earthy varieties. Colors are red to reddish
