This 2nd New Hampshire Regiment envelope is in nice un-used condition with no stains, tears or repairs and is offered as it came from decades of storage with a period news clipping account of the activities of the hard fought 2nd N. H. after evacuation of Yorktown and pursuit of Confederate forces with contact near Williamsburg, Virginia, May 1862. Entitled The Second New Hampshire at Williamsburg this colorful account by this correspondent to anxious readers at home advises that the 2nd lay for two hours under murderous fire and how when given orders to take cover and pick his man, The squirrel hunters of New Hampshire were now at home. From behind trees and logs the crack of their unerring rifles rang forth the death of many a traitor. The home boy correspondent continues with his flourishing account of bravery in the face of the enemy even to rarely encountered supportive comment on the activity of the surgeons as they labored while under fire.
