I am listing a small, but important collection of Civil War items, letters, diary, carved pipe (must see). These items belonged to Reuben C. Norton. He was from Rockford Illinois. He enlisted on Aug 1,1861 as a Sergeant in the 44th Illinois. He was promoted to 1st Lieut on Apr 19,1862. He resigned on Jan 25, 1863. He reinlisted on Mar 23 1864 as a Private. He was promoted to Hospital Steward on Sept 15 1864. Discharged at Camp Irwin Texas Sept 25, 1865.Reuben was born on Feb 15,1838 in Bridgewater Mich ,he stood 5'6". During the war he was wounded at least 3 times. He fought in many battles. This is a hand written history of the 44th Volunteers Company "G" , by Reuben Norton. It covers the time period of May 4th and ending Sept 8th, 1864.Lots of good information. Good luck bidders !!!
