Colt, New York U.S. America and marked on left side of frame Colts Patent, six-shot cylinder with worn engraving, brass trigger guard/backstrap and walnut grip, total length 14`. Includes original leather holster, 14` long, PLUS a cdv album with 49, mostly albumen images, including 8 soldiers of the 15th Ohio Vol. Infantry, including one uniformed portrait of John, also includes two Lincoln memorial cdv engravings, two portraits of John in civilian dress and many of his relatives, some identified, all in a fine embossed leather-covered cdv album, PLUS a cabinet card portrait of John, PLUS an Ms. document entitled War Diary and ??? record of John D. Fleming. Diary is a 12mo hand-sewn manuscript document on lined paper detailing his life in the army from Sept. 6th, 1861 through Dec. 24th 1862. Written in very legible hand with brief description of the Battle of Shiloh with most other entries concerning movements of unit and camp life and marching and marching and more marching. Diary end with another hand in the following: Here end the final chapter April 17th at red cross Hospital Salida, Colo. Died May 1st 1926 Aged 88 operated on for an obstruction in the stomach. Died from effects of operation., PLUS a cello calling card for James Fleming, John`s brother, PLUS a partially printed Ms. document promoting John to corporal in the 15th O.V.I. and signed by regimental commander Col. Frank Askew, dated Jan. 1st 1864, PLUS two 8` x 10` partially printed Ms discharge documents from John`s Captain detailing his service, dated 1864, & 65, PLUS Dept. of the Interior document pensions document.
