Well, I hate to sell this one, but I am moving, and I can not take it with me. So here it is: This is the biggest beast shell most people have ever seen. I think this is a British Palliser shot or shell-I am not sure. I obtained this guy quite a few years back and it is a great conversation starter. I was told this was found somewhere in the SOUTHERN UNITED STATES, but since I did not find it, I have no idea where exactly it was found. He wanted to keep it's exact recovery location a secret. It has several marks on the copper "studs". There is a * on 2 of them and some #'s on another. See the pictures. Also on the bottom, there is some writing, but I have no idea what it says. I put flour on the bottom to bring out the letters, but I am still unable to make out what it says. By my bathroom scale, this shell weighs about 219lbs. It stands 21 inches high and is 9" across iron to iron. With the studs, it looks to be a solid 10" caliber shell. Shipping will be by Freight and will be exact charges. No extra. If you live within 100 miles, I can deliver for $1 per mile. Or you are welcome to pick it up from here. Zip 22015. It is very solid and has no visible rust. The inside is hollow and has some metal chunks that clang around. I am guessing it is shrapnel or pieces of a fuse holder. This piece is completely inert and empty-see the picture of the fuse hole and the picture of the bottom of the shell. The only thing that may hurt you on this one is a hernia, or if you drop it on your toe. but I am hoping that the people that know what this is will bring it up to the proper value. I have no idea what it's worth. It looks like an Armstrong shell/shot. The research that I was able to do dates this piece somewhere between 1863 and 1880. I just don't know for sure. If you pick it up, there will be NO shipping fee. Good luck, and email if you have questions.
