U.S. Civil War Cartridge Box . Federal Cartridge Box Pattern of 1864 Type II US brass plate, with both tins and two flaps. Black leather. Inner flap stamped - K BAKER & McKENNEY N -Y , apparently a later, uncommon manufacturer. Brass US plate, lead filled (plate weighs 4.5 oz.). Measures 3 5/16 " by 2 1/8". No manufacturers mark on brass or lead. Plate loops are intact and not worn through, cut, cracked or tweaked. Two - two compartment tin inserts. No holes or rust through and in very good condition. Main (outer) flap closure tab sewn and riveted still intact BUT t is a tear due to wear in leather and does not close properly over brass finial. Belt loops are sewn and riveted and intact. Buckles are sewn and riveted, both have rollers and are intact. Inside secondary pouch closure intact and closes BUT t is damage to leather - a tear to leather on right side next to stitching. Otherwise in good condition and still useable. IMPORTANT: I am in not an expert in any way concerning civil war equipment or accouterments.
