This is a very Rare and unique grouping. Two Confederate Civil War photographs and a Yankee civil war sword Look closely at the Ambrotype of the Confederate soldier and then at the Tintype of the gentleman. They are in fact the same man during and after the war. One thing I noticed is the fullness of his cheeks during the war and then the way he looks thinner after the war had taken its toll on him. Both show a sadness in his eyes. He looks familiar to me, it seems as though I have seen this guy in a book somew but I cannot place w, perhaps one of you will recognize him. He is a Confederate soldier. The Soldier Photograph is an ambrotype with the cheeks tinted rose and the buttons toned gold. It has some scratches. It is in a Gutta- Purcha Union case that is marked LITTLEFIELD, PARSONS & CO . It is 3 inches by 2.5 inches. The Case is in great condition. The tintype is in a wooden case covered with leather and his ring has been gold toned. It has some scratches and appears to have a slight wrinkle in it. It's case is in not so good shape. With an old piece of tape keeping the front and the back hinged. It is 3 inches by 2.5 inches. The sword is a Union Issue Artillery sword with a rare Huse marked hilt. It has inspection marks as well as what I believe to be kill marks. Samuel Huse had an early contract to manufacture brass hilts for the Ames Company before Ames had set up casting operation. S. Huse went on to marry one of Ames 's daughters. This is all very interesting reading and can be found on the web, just do a search. The sword is in decent shape. The Huse hilts were known for becoming loose and that is why Ames stopped using them. This one is no exception. It's hilt also had become loose at some point in time and a soldier (not worried about collectability) would often hammer on the rivets to try to tighten them. This one has evidence of that very procedure however it is not too bad and is only slightly loose. This being probably a battlefield pick up or a souvenir after the war also has been used and abused pretty good as the blade shows . It is not a piece of junk by any means and makes this grouping of Civil War items a great asset to any collectors collection . Again this auction is for 1 Ambrotype 1 Tintype 1 Sword These Items are all part of my own personal collection and it pains me to part with any of them, however being a single father with 3 children looking forward to Christmas, I am having to do what I have to do. My reserve is only what I have into the items so bid early and bid often.... PLEASE. Good Luck and Thanks for looking
