This auction is for two vintage Civil War Era individual account books for general stores in the Town of Saugerties, Ulster County, NY ~ One is from Burhans and Brainard and the second I'm not sure of...looks like "W Nulloggolo"???? There are dates of 1861, 1862, 1866, 1863, 1866, 1867, 1868, 1869, 1870. These measure approximately 5 3/4" X 3 3/4" inches, have leather covers and list prices of items that were bought on account and payments made ~ Tobacco, Denim, Cheese, Stove Polish, Buttons, Feed, Coffee, Spoon, Wash Tub, Plates, Tea Pot, Stew Pot, Bowls, Pail, Molasses, Tea, Muslin, Castor Oil, Ginger, Spice, Bluing, Matches, Calico, Codfish, Candles, Salt, Broom, Soap, Ink, Nails, Boards, Planks, Shingles, Red Flannel, Ribbed Drawers, etc. etc. One book also contains names of different people and days worked or items bartered or sold to...Bushels of corn, bushels of apples, eggs, hay, butter, potatoes, shoeing horses, etc. These have been stored in a clean dry environment for decades and are in nice vintage condition.
