These are the best pair of antique binoculars I have ever owned, the condition for their age is super. These binoculars are an estate sale find and I was told by the family member that they were in the family and dated back to the time of the Civil War. I am no expert, but in my research I came upon Warman's Civil War Collectables 2nd Edition, on page 37 under optics was a picture of a very similar pair of European binoculars. I'll quote from the caption "Most field glasses carried during the Civil War were of European manufacture. Relalitively inexpensive today, a pair will sell for $125-$450." I can only try and research the best I can, I hope the page scans show the similarities.
