Civil War era CDV - "SUMMER GARLANDS" by J.P.Soule Boston You're bidding on one 4" x 2 1/2" Civil War era CDV with the image of a young woman titled " SUMMER GARLANDS ". This CDV is in excellent condition. The printing at the bottom of the card reads as follows: " Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1864, by John P. Soule, in the clerk's office of the District of Massachusetts. SUMMER GARLANDS From the original by G.G. Fish. Photo, and pub. by J.P.Soule, Boston " George G. Fish was a famous Nantucket artist. These CDV's were sold by sutlers to Civil War soldiers. A sutler usually built stores close to army encampments and sold provisions and supplies. The soldiers quite often inserted these CDV's into their personal photo albums. ,
