RARE CIVIL WAR ERA CONFEDERATE BASS DRUMSTICK ETCHED VA12-(VIRGINIA INFANTRY)-FOUND IN GETTYSBURG-LOCAL PICK UP AFTER THE BATTLE- MEASURES 12" LONG WITH THE HEAD 3 5/8"- HAND SEWN LEATHER- SOME OF THE SEAM ARE SEPARATED- WARM YELLOW-BROWN WOODEN HANDLE WITH CARVED VA 12 NEAR THE HEAD- THE 12TH VIRGINIA INFANTRY HAS A LONG HISTORY WITH THE ARMY OF NORTHERN VIRGINIA- FROM SEVEN PINES TO CHANCELLORSVILLE - MAY OF 1863- WHERE MANY OF ITS MEMBERS REEQUIPPED THEMSELVES WITH ITEMS FROM THE FEDERAL DEAD LEFT IN THE WOODS-THIER ONLY SOURCE OF SUPPLY- TWO MONTHS LATER THEY ARRIVED IN GETTYSBURG-348 STRONG AS PART OF THE 3RD CORPS UNDER A P HILL- ANDERSON'S DIVISION- MAHONE'S BRIGADE- THEY WERE LUCKY AND LOST ONLY ABOUT 4 PERCENT OF THEIR NUMBER DOING THE HELLISH FIGHT- THIS DRUMSTICK WAS FOUND BY A LOCAL AND PASSED DOWN- ACQUIRED FROM COLLECTOR -GETTYSBURG- THE 12TH WOULD FIGHT UNTIL THE END OF THE WAR- SURRENDING WITH ABOUT 120 LEFT- GREAT COLLECTIBLE FROM THIS EPIC BATTLE AND A HARD FIGHTING UNIT FROM GENERAL LEE'S ARMY OF NORTHERN VIRGINIA
