A most attractive four piece Civil War vintage shaving outfit. A nice hog bristle shaving brush with cotton twine binding and turned wood handle all in the classic style of the Civil War era (see; Gettysburg Visitors Center, Civil War Museum collection). In eye appealing original condition with a rich patina and evidence of careful period use. With the brush is a wonderful period soap tin about half full of its period home-grown tallow soap. The soap tin is complete with its original lid and shows an attractive patina with hand soldered lapped seam construction. An attractive hand made period strop measures just under 12 in length and the group is completed by the inclusion of an extra heavy horn mounted period straight razor. Of special interest here is and augmenting the extra width of the fine hollow ground blade are the markings of Civil War period Sheffield cutlerers WADE & BUTCHER FOR BARBER USE. (A prize in the period for those who could afford them and a necessarily for the trooper who enjoyed a bit of extra change as the Co. barber.)
