ID'D CIVIL WAR OFFICERS SWORD WITH SCABBARD ENGRAVED Acquired from an estate in Southern, Ohio. This listing is for a Civil War Era Sword with Scabbard. Stamped on each side of the ricasso, one side Pettibone Bros. Mfg. Co. Cincinnati, Ohio, the other large engraved U.S. with a small animal Bear? stamped in. The double edged blade is heavily engraved and has the name of W.C. Durrell or W.F. Durrell. The grip is leather with brass braided wire, with a fancy cast brass "D" shape grip guard, kidney shaped cross guards, one with shield, cannons and wreath and the other with eagle and shield, whistle hilt. The cross guard with the shield and cannons is hinged, so it can be folded down. The pommel is crown shaped, very ornate with eagle and shield and wreaths running around it. It is in good condition, little wear to the engraving on the blade and the handle. The scabbard is in good condition with no dents or missing parts. Blade length 32", overall with scabbard 40-3/4".
