Civil War frying pan as fas as I can tell. It looks exactly like the ones in the museums and was a gift from a Civil War collector, but at the time I was more into reenacting than collecting so did not ask about it. I never used it, but it is well used. The roughness in the interior is not rust but accumulated cooking residue. It is a sheet iron pan, 9 inches across and 2 inches deep. The handle is hand forged (just look at the photos) and attached with rivets. The handle has a "I" stamped on the bottom and the pan also has the same/ The edges of the handle are bevelled. If you have any questions, let me know. I will try and answer them, but you probably know more aboout this than I do at this point. I got it in 1992. It just is a great old well-used pan that I wish could speak.... Let me repeat...this is NOT a reproduction or replica. It is the real deal. And it does not have any rust on it. It has had grease or cooking residue on it forever, which has protected the surface, and I kept it oiled while I had it with olive oil. I did a little checking on Civil War artifact sittes and have seen virtually the same pan, in several different configurations. Also, last year when I was doing research on Civil War camp life, I came across a Civil War photo showing a man crouching down to use exactly this same kind of pan, and at the time
